An estimated grade (formerly known as a forecast grade) is the grade the centre expects a candidate to achieve for a unit or for an overall qualification (general qualifications only). In the case of a linear qualification, the estimated grade is the overall expected grade for the qualification.
OCR collects estimated grades for both units and certification, with the exception of legacy GCSE Mathematics C module tests, for which estimated grades are not collected.
Estimated grades provide valuable information. They are mainly used at cohort level to guide awarding decisions and to ensure that our examiners are marking accurately.
We also use estimated grades for individual candidates in appeals and special consideration. However, we don't automatically use them if a script goes missing. Instead, we use the information provided but ensure that it is backed up with other evidence.
Estimated grades should be sent to OCR via EDI. Alternatively, they can be submitted on the Estimated Grade Forms, which are supplied before each series.
Deadlines for submitting estimated grades can be found in the Admin Guide.
