We are currently reforming our GCSEs, AS and A Level in line with the government programme of general qualification reform. However, on 16 July 2015 the Department for Education (DfE) announced it was not possible to develop content for General Studies that met Ofqual's principles for reformed AS and A Levels.
If you are looking for an alternative GCE level course to replace General Studies, we recommend our Extended Project Qualification (H856), which provides opportunities for extension and thematic study. The Extended Project qualification builds on the desire to help students become independent learners, and encourages them to make novel connections between different areas of knowledge and apply a range of skills to produce an independent piece of research. Learn more about the benefits and how some of the key General Studies skills and competences map onto the Extended Project qualification.
The final assessment opportunity for AS and A Level General Studies (H079/H479) will be in Summer 2018, with resit opportunities in Summer 2019. From 2017 the availability of assessment opportunities will be as follows:
*To find out more about resit rules for legacy AS and A Level qualifications please see the Legacy AS/A Level entry rules page on the OCR website.
