Assessor recruitment

Religious Studies

Are you interested in assessing for one of OCR's popular Religious Studies qualifications?

We currently have opportunities for Examiners and Moderators for future examinations.

OCR offers qualifications in Religious Studies at Entry Level. GCSE Short Course, GCSE and GCE AS/A Level.

The specifications cover a wide range of study areas including Philosophy of Religion, Religious Ethics, World Religions and Textual Studies.

There are two examination series each year in January and June.

Before you begin assessing you will be invited to attend a new assessor training session.  This session forms an introduction to OCR with information about OCR, administration and mark schemes.  It is strongly recommended that you attend to get a deeper understanding of assessing and increase your performance.

At the start of each examination series, you will also be asked to attend a standardisation meeting.  At this meeting you will work though the examination criteria to ensure that you examine/moderate to the required OCR standard.

Examination scripts or coursework are sent securely to your home address (or another nominated location) and you complete your allocation of scripts/coursework at home.

GCSE Gateway and 21st Century Sciences moderation

The popularity of the new GCSE Gateway and 21st Century Sciences means that we will be recruiting a significant number of new moderators in the next few months to join our existing moderation teams.

The reasons for becoming an OCR moderator given by our existing moderators, are the opportunities that it offers:

  • Developing a thorough knowledge of the performance descriptions and how to apply them
  • Gaining an insight into the moderation process
  • Meeting teachers from other schools
  • Finding examples of good practice and picking up good ideas which can then be disseminated to colleagues.

Moderation provides an excellent CPD opportunity with the additional bonus of a financial reward. Teachers find it very useful if at least one of their colleagues has relevant moderation experience.

Twenty First Century Science

There are two types of skills assessment and each will have a separate moderator team:

  • Case study/data analysis and investigation (Science, Additional Science and Separate Sciences)
  • Work-related portfolio (Additional Applied Science).

You can indicate an assessment preference on the attached Twenty First Century Science supplementary sheet (Word, 48 Kb).

Gateway Science

There are two types of skills assessment and each will have a separate moderator team:

  • Science in the news and can-do tasks (Science and Separate Sciences)
