Markers

Marking allows you to boost your income and work flexible hours from home.

To become a Marker you need:

  • An NQF level 4 qualification.
  • Good communication skills.
  • IT literacy and familiarity with e-communications.
  • A secure home PC with broadband access.

You do not require any teaching experience to become a Marker.

Person specification

To become a Marker you need:

Knowledge and qualifications

  • Be qualified to NQF (National Qualifications Framework) level 4 or equivalent.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be IT literate and be familiar with e-communications.
  • Have appropriate subject knowledge.

Personal qualities

  • Be able to work to fixed time scales.
  • Be able to comply with instructions.
  • Be able to identify and solve problems.
  • Be able to act on feedback.
  • Be conscientious.
  • Be able to prioritise workloads.

Role specification

Marking of the examination¹

  • Complete the standardisation process as specified in the relevant OCR documents.
  • Mark candidates' work according to the agreed mark scheme.
  • Complete all work to schedule.

Result Enquiries¹

  • Re-mark candidates' work as required by OCR.

Professional development

  • Undertake training, as required by OCR.

Markers FAQs

A. Marking foundation level examination responses on-screen using scoris®, following a mark scheme.

A. Marking is seasonal and takes place in January, March and June.

A. Marking can be done from home on your own PC, or from a marker centre (based in the Birmingham area). When OCR recruits for markers, we will specify if we are looking for home-based or centre-based markers.

A. Currently marking is only offered in GCSE Sciences and ICT.

A. You will need a level 4 qualification or above and good communication skills.

A. The rate varies according to the paper that is marked. Details will be provided if you are invited to mark. Fees are paid on a per script marked basis.

A. Yes, an experienced Team Leader will monitor your marking. You will be able to contact them with any queries that you have during the examination series. Support is available from OCR and technical assistance is also provided.

A. It depends on the paper being marked, but typically a period of around two to three weeks is given. Specific marking start and end dates for each paper are provided in advance to those marking.

A. At present, whole scripts are marked.
