Knowledge and qualifications

Essential

  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Have current knowledge of the UK examination system.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Have appropriate subject knowledge.

  • Have current knowledge of the relevant QCA Codes of Practice.

Experience

  • Have relevant assessment experience and a proven track record of teaching within the subject area concerned.

Role specification

Act as Principal Examiner or Principal Moderator for at least one component/unit.

Question paper setting¹

  • Supervise the construction of the question papers, mark schemes and grids for the written papers within the specification.
  • Supervise the criteria for internal assessment where appropriate.
  • Ensure the specification content and assessment objectives are covered as required by the Code of Practice.
  • Attend the QPEC and other related meetings and ensure parity between alternative questions and components.
  • Review the question papers, mark schemes and grids in light of the scrutineers' reports and make recommendations to the Chair of Examiners if any amendments are required.

For each examination session¹

  • Participate in the standardisation process and support/advise Principal Examiners and Principal Moderators if appropriate.
  • Attend the awarding meeting and ensure that standards are maintained year on year.
  • Write an introduction to the Report to Centres.
  • Complete appraisals for Principal Examiners and Principal Moderators.
  • Submit a confidential report on the examination session to the Chair of Examiners and correspond with the Chair on any issues, as required.

Marking Review¹

  • Attend the Marking Review meeting if required.

Result Enquiries¹

  • Re-mark candidates' scripts as required and instructed by OCR.

Professional development

  • Attend relevant professional development events as required by OCR.
  • Conduct training for assessors.
  • Contribute to OCR INSET and support programmes.

Appraisal and feedback

  • Appraise the work of the assessors for whom you are responsible, giving written advice to OCR
