OCR offers the following training events for assessors at all levels:

  • New Assessor training.
  • scoris® training.
  • Senior Team Training.
  • Succession training for Examiner/Moderator to Team Leader.
  • Succession training for Team Leader to Principal Examiner/Moderator.
  • Succession training for External Verifier to Chief Verifier.

Training FAQs

A. The word 'Assessor' is used as a generic term to cover examiners and markers (who mark examination scripts), moderators (who moderate coursework) and verifiers (who assure the quality and consistency of assessment in centres). It is also used to refer to Senior Assessors such as Chief Examiners, Chief Verifiers, Principal Examiners and Principal Moderators.

A. Yes, you will be invited to a New Assessor Training event where the marking, moderating, or verification process and your role in it will be explained. Depending on your role, you will be given either guidance on how to reliably use a mark scheme to mark scripts, how to apply assessment criteria to moderate coursework, or how to apply effective verification procedures.

A. Most training events will take place in the Coventry area, at venues with good rail and road links.

A. As a new Assessor you will attend a one-day New Assessor Training event and, on a separate occasion, a Standardisation meeting which normally lasts for one day.

A. Events are typically scheduled to start at 9.30am and finish at 3.30pm, although there may be occasions when an event falls outside these times.

A. Yes, lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments are provided.

A. Yes. If you would need to leave home before 6.30am in order to get to a training event on time, OCR will fund an overnight stay on the evening prior to the event.

A. Yes, all delegates can claim travel expenses. In addition, either an attendance fee or teacher release fee is paid, but not both.
