A. scoris® is an on-screen marking application that allows assessors to mark candidates' responses to examination questions on-screen.
A. scoris® is the brand name for a suite of marking applications used by OCR. If you have previously marked on-screen you will have used DOMS (Digital Object Marking Software). scoris® is an updated version of this.
A. Once you have been invited as an examiner or marker, you will be sent instructions on how to access the scoris® training website.
A. No, currently scoris® is only used to mark examination answers in selected subjects.
A. Currently GCSE 21st Century Science, GCSE Gateway Science, GCSE ICT, GCSE Design and Technology, and GCSE Maths are being marked using scoris®.
A. There are several benefits to marking on-screen:
The biggest difference is that candidate responses are marked on-screen rather than on paper. scoris® allows markers to annotate candidate responses and use marking tools to aid marking.
A. Home based assessors are asked to validate the specification of the computer they plan to use for marking before they accept their invitation to mark. A hardware validation tool is made accessible for this purpose and clearly indicates if your computer can run the software.
A. You will need to make the necessary changes to your computer's hardware or software specification if it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. This might include installing a newer version of software already on your computer or adding additional memory. For example, results of the hardware validation test will be available immediately and will explain the steps necessary to upgrade your computer.
A. OCR is unable to meet the cost of any upgrades required to an assessor's computer.
A. At the moment only PCs running Windows XP or Vista can run scoris®.
A. The faster the connection, the better scoris® will perform. A minimum speed of 2MB is recommended. Most internet service providers offer connection speeds in excess of this and can advise the highest likely speed you can achieve in your area. You should also consider the download limit on any service you either subscribe to now or plan to subscribe to. You may be charged if you download more than an agreed amount of data in a given period therefore opting for the highest amount possible is recommended.
