Modes in Motion: A free event for A Level English Language and Literature teachers

Want to find out what makes OCR's new specifications different, and how you can get your students excited about texts?

Exploring multimodality and connections across texts, this unique event will dramatically bring to life two modules - Connections across Texts and Changing Texts - as part of OCR's new English Language and Literature Specification, and give teachers the opportunity to speak to senior examiners. The event will be held in London's Soho Theatre, on 26 September 2008.

Adrian Hodges will offer first hand experience of converting a prose narrative text into a screenplay and the challenges faced on a practical level, with particular reference to The Ruby in the Smoke. Adrian has written extensively for the screen, including the acclaimed Charles II, which won him a prestigious Bafta award. As well as Philip Pullmans' The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow of the North for the BBC, his adaptations include H.G. Wells' The History of Mr Polly, Iain Pears' The Raphael Affair, George Eliot's Silas Marner and Dickens' David Copperfield.

Narrative expert Dr Ruth Page will be discussing in a stimulating and inspiring session the different dimensions of multi-modality and how A Level students can make links between reading texts and multi-modal texts.

Dr Anne Whitehead will be providing a thought-provoking insight into how students can approach linking contemporary non-literary texts to literary and spoken language text, with some gripping examples.

GCSE Changes Expos a huge success

More than 1,500 people attended OCR's free GCSE Changes Expos. Held in Newcastle, Coventry, Manchester and London, delegates had the opportunity to meet subject experts and take part in presentations covering all aspects of OCR's exciting new range of GCSEs.
