Earlier this year, OCR became the first awarding body in England to send exam results to students by text message, as part of an ongoing trial.

The service is designed as an optional extra for centres, so that candidates who are unable to make it into the centre on results days can still receive their results.

Centres retain control over which candidates they feel are appropriate for the scheme, to ensure that students who may need extra support around the time of results can still collect their grades in the traditional way.

The second phase of the pilot took place over the summer, and saw texts being sent as far as Rwanda, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong. Currently the pilot is focused on A Levels only, but will be rolled out to other qualifications in due course.
