OCR welcomes report on Diplomas Friday 18 May 2007

OCR has welcomed the recent Select Committee report on Diplomas, as a fair and realistic assessment of the current situation.

"The report has got it about right", said Greg Watson, Chief Executive of OCR. "Diplomas are a bold idea, but the first phase has become high-risk. No public qualification has ever been launched with so little input from those who understand teaching, learning, assessment and qualifications and there is still no clear definition of the purpose of Diplomas. If lessons are learnt quickly and applied to the next phase, Diplomas could yet be a valuable addition to the work-related options available to 14-19-year olds."
