Update: OCR Nationals in Science to be included in the new Science Indicator Friday 13 July 2007

We are delighted that the new Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has announced that OCR Nationals will now be included in the new school achievement tables for Science, known as the Science Indicator.

Originally, only GCSE and GCE achievement were to be included in the indicator, but after successful representation to ministers, we are delighted that OCR Nationals are now included.

Paul Steer, OCR's Director of Stakeholder Relations, said:

'This is a fantastic decision, which recognises the important role our Nationals can play in engaging more and more young people to learn about Science. We must acknowledge and thank all those schools, colleges, Local Authorities and individuals who played such a pivotal role in persuading ministers of the importance of recognising these exciting new qualifications, and providing learners with new and dynamic curriculum choices.'

The new indicator now recognises OCR Level 2 National Awards and National Certificates in Science at pass, merit and distinction. Full details are in the summary document (PDF, 40Kb) available from the DCSF website.
