Development work on a new endorsed Ancient History qualification is progressing well Tuesday 24 July 2007

Development work on a new endorsed Ancient History qualification, available within the OCR Classics A Level suite is progressing well. OCR has worked closely with JACT in a successful collaboration to create a qualification which will support the continued study of Ancient History. Although some of the detail has yet to be worked through, topics are likely to include:

  • Fifth Century Athenian Democracy, Athenian Imperialism, Politics and Society in Classical Sparta
  • Political Life in the Late Roman Republic, Augustus and Augustan Propaganda, Britain through Roman Eyes
  • The Culture of Athens, Greece in Conflict, Greece and Persia
  • The Fall of the Roman Republic, Augustus and the invention of Imperial Rome, Ruling the Roman Empire

It will contain a requirement to demonstrate the skills of working with original source material, and candidates will be expected to demonstrate a knowledge of both Greek and Roman history for the AS qualification and the A level qualification. A draft version will be available on the OCR website in late August.
