OCR's on-going work to support the JCB Academy in Staffordshire is featured in today's Telegraph. The Academy, which formally opened in September 2010, is the first school of its kind to specialise in a technically-orientated education for 14 to 19 year olds. Pupils at the JCB Academy follow a unique curriculum which is 60% technical and 40% academic. With the help of OCR, the school has created a specialist curriculum for its students, structured around termly projects supported by companies such as Rolls Royce and Toyota, which still meets assessment requirements.
Mark Dawe, OCR Chief Executive, said: "We are delighted to help the JCB Academy, and other University Technical Colleges emerging around the country, to deliver a unique education which is within the national curriculum. The school's aim of producing employable and skilled young people, who can also progress on to study in further or higher education, is one we share."
