The Department for Education (DfE) in England has confirmed that from September 2012 it will disapply the ICT National Curriculum Programmes of Study.
The move is designed to encourage schools to develop and deliver their own programmes of study in ICT or to adopt existing alternatives.
While schools are being given new freedoms, Ofsted inspectors will expect to see evidence of ICT being delivered. It is also proposed that schools should be required to publish their ICT programmes of study for parents and others to access.
With further changes from the new National Curriculum expected for 2014, many schools will choose not to make significant changes to their current ICT planning yet. OCR’s existing ICT qualifications remain an excellent way to demonstrate the delivery of an ICT curriculum to Ofsted and to parents.
