Mark’s talk, entitled “Education - Back to the future?” looked at our educational heritage and set the latest wave of educational reforms in context.
The lecture was packed with thought-provoking subjects including A Levels, changes to the GCSE and introduction of the EBC, the move to one exam board per key subject, vocational learning and controlled assessment.
Talking about the exams system, Mark said “The learning going on in the classroom is the most important thing, not the exams. It’s our job is to help educators enhance learning. The curriculum should be about core principles and teachers should be given the freedom to bring it to life.”
OCR’s Jade Cassidy, Regional Account Manager, was one of over 50 people at the event. She added “Everyone was really engaged with the presentation and it prompted a great deal of discussion on topics such as the purpose of examinations, grade inflation and the role of teachers.”
