Congratulations to Harlow College, named as winner of OCR’s ‘Innovation in FE’ Beacon Award, at the Association of Colleges’ Annual Conference in Birmingham. Skills Minister Matthew Hancock announced the Award winners at the Conference on Tuesday 19 November 2013.
OCR is delighted to support the annual Beacon Awards which recognise excellence across the FE sector. Harlow College won OCR’s Award for Innovation in FE because of its college-wide approach to supporting learning for a wide range of students. The approach involved giving individual departments greater responsibility for curriculum planning and delivery, plus setting up daily team meetings and links to individual students to ensure more effective monitoring and support of students.
Charlotte Bosworth, OCR Director of Skills and Employment said:
“The FE sector is one of the most innovative in education and the entries for this year’s OCR Award for Innovation in FE proved this time and time again. Harlow College has abandoned a rigid ‘top down’ model for planning teaching and learning. Instead, they introduced a flexible ‘bottom up’ model which is benefitting students and staff alike and could be rolled out to transform teaching and learning in other colleges.”
