Overview

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the concepts, principles of accounting and their application to a range of accounting situations at AS GCE Level. At A2 GCE Level, the course incorporates a more indepth knowledge across a wide range of business situations providing students with an excellent foundation for further study of accountancy. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue a wide range of careers in business management and related fields.

Previous study in Accounting is not essential, however, students who have already achieved grade C in Mathematics at GCSE (or equivalent) will find it helpful.

Specification aims

The aims of these specifications are to encourage students to:

  • Develop an understanding of the principles, concepts and techniques of accounting.
  • Develop the skills of application of number, communication, presentation, interpretation, analysis and evaluation.
  • Understand the importance of IT-based information systems for accounting.
  • Understand the limitations of accounting information and the economic, ethical, social and environmental implications of accounting decisions.
  • Develop a capacity for methodical and critical thought which will serve as an end in itself, and a basis for further study of accounting and related subjects.
