This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to acquire the skills needed by a historian, through the study of a choice of topics in Greek and Roman History from the sixth century BC to the fourth century AD. Students are encouraged to study in depth the work of historians who shaped the Western tradition of the writing of history.
The course provides a firm foundation for further study at degree level in any of the humanities subjects, classical studies or ancient, medieval or modern history. The course is also suitable for those wishing to progress directly into employment.
Previous study of the subject is not essential. However, students are expected to have achieved grade C or above in English GCSE or equivalent.
