Overview

This course is designed to offer students a sound grounding in a number of areas, whilst exploring the subject in depth. Exploring these many different areas of art, means that students have freedom to choose, whilst accommodating their range of abilities.

Through the creative development of process, production, reflection and evaluation, students achieve the knowledge and understanding required in art, craft and design. Students can also specialise in the following paths: Fine Art; Graphic Design; Three Dimensional Design; Textiles; Photography and Critical and Contextual Studies.

Previous study of the subject at GCSE level or equivalent, will be of benefit to the student, but it is not essential. The course offers a sound basis for progression into further or higher education, and to enter employment where skills in art are necessary.

Specification aims

The aims of these specifications are to encourage students to:

  • Develop intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers.
  • Develop investigative, analytical, experimental, technical and expressive skills, aesthetic understanding and critical judgement.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the role and achievements of artists, craftspeople and designers in the past and in contemporary society.
  • Develop an understanding of the relationship between, and the connections across the disciplines of art, craft and design.
