Overview

This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to study Home Economics within a contemporary and changing multicultural society. Throughout the course, students develop an awareness of the management of resources to meet an identified human need and study a variety of Home Economics contexts.

The course is aimed at those who have done Home Economics, Food and Nutrition GCSE. However, the course also accommodates those who have no previous knowledge of the subject.

Specification aims

The aims of these specifications are to encourage students to:

  • Develop an awareness of the management of resources to meet an identified human need in a changing multicultural and technological society, including spiritual and moral issues.
  • Develop the ability to make informed decisions.
  • Develop an investigative approach to study, including problem solving and different methods of research methodology.
  • Apply and develop the key skills of communication, application of number and information technology.
  • Experience of relevant materials and processes which will inform the students´ decisions.
  • Develop a crtitical approach towards their studies and to communicate their ideas through a range of media.
  • Develop an awareness of Home Economics as an applied field of study leading to further and higher education and a range of career options.
  • Have the opportunity to study consumer issues and the nutritional and technological aspects of food.
