These qualifications are designed to reward language skills for learners of all ages and abilities, from primary to adult, by measuring them against the DCSF Languages Ladder of proficiency.
The Languages Ladder is made up of six stages:
Each stage is further broken down into up to three smaller grades and four skill areas.
New languages and stages are being rolled out throughout the year. Information on the current availability and external assessment series dates, is taken from the Asset Languages website.
For each grade and skill there is a corresponding can do statement (PDF, 50 Kb) which describes what learners can do at certain levels for example, 'I can talk about my plans for the future.'
Asset Languages offers external assessment for OCR qualifications for a whole stage and teacher assessment for the grades within each stage.
They allow learners to develop unique language profiles by separately assessing the four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing - so they can concentrate on the areas that are most useful or appropriate.
