Overview

This course is designed to provide accreditation for the skills developed by learners following the Adult Literacy Curriculum at Entry Level. Students can be assessed at Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3.

The course has three units which cover; Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. Students can be assessed at Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3.

Students who wish to further develop their knowledge and understanding at Entry Level and who wish to use their achievements in a wider context, may be able to progress to the OCR Entry Level Certificates in a variety of vocational areas such as Adult Numeracy, ICT Skills for Life, Retail, Manufacturing or Job Seeking Skills.

Specification aims

The aims of this specification are to:

  • develop students' skill in speaking to others in familiar situations.
  • develop students' skill in listening to and understanding spoken language in familiar situations.
  • develop students' skill in reading and understanding a range of texts.
  • develop students' skill in writing to communicate information and opinions.
  • develop students' confidence in using literacy skills in a range of contexts for different practical purposes.
  • encourage progression by assisting in the development of the skills and knowledge which students will need in order to undertake further study.
