The OCR Entry Level Skills for Life qualification is accredited on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) at Entry 1, Entry 2 and Entry 3.
The qualification has been designed to assess the practical use of ICT. This includes the use of email, text messaging, search facilities and the presentation of information. The units are assessed by OCR set assignments that are provided as context free templates. This flexible form of assessment enables tutors to provide contextualised assignments that are appropriate for their candidates. The templates are available on the OCR website as word documents that can be customised by tutors (click on publications and materials above).
The qualification is unit based to enable candidates to achieve individual units that are stepping stones towards the full qualification.
The units are equally weighted. Each unit contributes to the total requirement of the qualification. In order to achieve the full qualification, candidates must meet all of the stated assessment objectives for each of the 3 units at Entry Level 3 or Entry Level 2. The qualification at Entry Level 1 is a single unit qualification.
All units are assessed in the centre and moderated by OCR. Only work that meets all the assessment requirements should be submitted to OCR for moderation.
The qualification has been designed to offer flexible assessment and administration arrangements:
The content of the qualification is based on, and fully covers, the national standards for ICT Skills for Life at Entry Level. The national standards can be found on the QCA website at www.qca.org.uk/qualifications/basicskills.
This qualification is approved on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) for use by 16 - 19 learners and adults. It has also received Section 96 approval for use by Key Stage 4 pupils who are assessed by their schools as needing access to a wider range of certification in Key Stage 4 alongside the usual GCSEs.
All centres who are approved to offer the OCR Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy qualifications will automatically have their approval extended for the OCR Entry Level ICT Skills for Life qualification.
