OCR Essential Skills Wales suite of qualifications replaces the Key Skills and Basic Skills qualifications in Wales. These single unit qualifications are available from Entry Level to Level 3 in the skills of Application of Number, Communication and ICT.
This new suite of qualifications is based on Essential Skills Wales standards produced by DCELLS. The new standards have been developed by converging and drawing on best practice from the standards for Adult Literacy, Adult Numeracy and Adult ICT, and the standards for Key Skills Communication, Application of Number and ICT.
The National Basic Skills Tests at Levels 1 and 2 use the same tests as those for Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number at Levels 1 and 2.
Candidates who achieve a National Basic Skills test at Level 1 or 2 can use this as a proxy for the associated Key Skills test in Application of Number or Communication at the same level.
