Overview

Available at Levels 1, 2 and 3, the Diploma in Engineering opens up the wide range of employment opportunities that exist in each of engineering's specialist sectors. Learners have the chance to develop their knowledge and understanding of engineering through a range of ‘real life' activities.

Course aim

The OCR Diploma in Engineering aims to:

  • Develop a broad understanding and knowledge of engineering sectors, as well as a range of skills relevant to those areas
  • Encourage learners to deepen and extend their learning into specialist areas
  • Strengthen each learner's generic learning skills.

Change to the assessment model

Engineering Diploma: Principal learning

Level 3, Unit F564 - Scientific principles and applications for engineers

The assessment model for the above unit has been revised to ensure all 20 assessment criteria are covered by the learner.

The changes made are:

  • The 20 assessment criteria have been grouped logically into 10 categories - within each category learners are expected to complete one experiment.
  • The guided learning hours for each experiment is four point five hours (meaning the total time for assessment remains at 45 hours). By breaking this unit into manageable chunks, learners can become more adept at exploring the categories in an engineering context.

We have worked closely with engineering professionals to ensure these revisions are fit for purpose and do not affect the original ethos of the unit.
