Overview

Learners who take the Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design will be engaged in a motivating, applied programme designed to ease progression into employment, including apprenticeship programmes and higher education. At level 1, 2 or 3 the diploma will stimulate and develop the skills and capabilities necessary to meet the needs of the manufacturing sector.

Course aim

Combining transferable personal learning and thinking skills with functional skills in English, Mathematics and ICT. The diploma will provide learners with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to tasks in context of local manufacturing sub-sectors such as:

  • Estimating the quantities of materials needed for the batch production of concrete garden furniture
  • Summarising technical data gained from discussion with a design engineer
  • Using a nutritional database to work out what needs to go on a food product label.
