Overview

This course is designed to reflect the OCR GCSE Art and Design course and to provide opportunities for students to develop the skills that underpin the creative and imaginative experience. It aims to cater for those lower attaining students who would have difficulty attaining a grade at GCSE or the equivalent vocational qualification.

Students may be entered for either a broad-based course (3940) or a focused course (3941-3945). The broad based course requires students to submit work from two or more areas of study chosen from Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Textiles and Three-dimensional Design. A focused course entry requires students to submit work from a single area of study only. Students are allowed to demonstrate achievement at the level of Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3 through the exploration of ideas and realisation of intentions.

Students studying for this qualification will have a clear progression route to GCSE Art and Design. It also allows students to progress directly to employment or to Foundation Level courses within the National Qualifications Framework.
