This course provides opportunities for candidates to develop an awareness of the nature and significant importance of Design and Technology in a rapidly changing society. It enables candidates to develop their application of knowledge, skills and understanding of Textiles Technology within an overall design and make based approach.
The content of the specification provides a coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study for candidates, whether they wish to pursue the study of Design and Technology in the future or whether it will be their last experience of studying the subject.
For assessment (100% coursework), candidates will be expected to use and study a simple manufactured and marketed Textiles Technology product and then design and make their own Textiles Technology product. The evidence required for internal assessment must include a 3 dimensional product with a concise portfolio.
It is recognised at this level, that candidates will need additional support to address, communicate responses and to carry out the tasks related to the assessment criteria. It is accepted that teachers should provide appropriate support to candidates. However when assessing the work, marks are only to be awarded for the candidates' own contribution.
The specification will assess achievement at levels 1, 2 and 3 of the National Curriculum.
This Entry Level qualification is a general qualification designed to enable candidates to progress either directly to employment or to Foundation Level courses within the National Framework for Qualifications.
