Overview

This course is designed to cater for those students unlikely to achieve a grade in GCSE Mathematics. However, it provides a basis for suitable students to progress towards a GCSE in Mathematics.

This specification will assess achievement at levels 1, 2 and 3 of the National Curriculum.

Specification aims

The aims of this specification are to encourage students to:

• Develop a feel for number, carry out simple calculations and understand the significance of the results obtained.
• Appreciate the place and use of mathematics in society and apply mathematical concepts to situations arising in their own lives.
• Develop a positive attitude to mathematics, including confidence, enjoyment and perseverance.
• Work independently and co-operatively.
