Overview

This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and understanding of the world of work. Students address several issues, such as health and safety and rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

The course consists of four units and students may choose whether they enter for a complete qualification (all four) or for individual units. This flexible arrangement provided by the course allows students to gain accreditation at their own pace.

This qualification is part of the Career Planning and Preparation for Employment suite, which also comprises:

Throughout the course, students develop generic skills which are transferable to a range of different vocational contexts.

Specification aims

The aims of this specification are to encourage students to:

  • Develop students' knowledge of the work environment.
  • Develop students' ability to plan for working days.
  • Develop students' awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace.
  • Encourage the development of practical and interpersonal skills.
