Functional Skills are practical skills in English, Maths and ICT that help learners gain the most out of work, education and everyday life. OCR is running a three year pilot for Functional Skills in all three subjects at all levels - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2.
Functional English encourages learners to be confident and capable when using the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing and enables them to communicate effectively, adapting to a range of audiences and contexts.
All learners aged 14 and above, including young people and adults would benefit from functional English in order to explain information clearly and succinctly in speech and writing, expressing a point of view reasonably and effectively.
OCR's Entry Level Functional Skills qualifications have been designed to enable centres to assess functional skills in a way that is educationally sound, supports good practice, engages students and takes minimal teacher resource. The assessment activities themselves have been planned to be easy to provide and robust when attempted by learners, allowing them to demonstrate their functional skills in a non–threatening way during normal class time.
