Specification aims

The aims of this specification are to:

  • Stimulate, encourage and sustain students' confidence, and foster curiosity, ingenuity and imagination in the shaping of ideas, experience and feelings, by providing opportunities for active participation in the Arts.
  • Foster the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the ways in which artforms may connect with and enhance other artforms.
  • Provide opportunities for communication of ideas and for a sensitive and perceptive response in the 'language' of artforms.
  • Provide direct experience of creative processes, and to encourage awareness of the Arts in historic, social and cultural contexts and the development of skills and techniques appropriate to various artforms.
  • Promote the development of students' critical skills through evaluation of their work and that of others.
