Overview

This course is designed to offer students an understanding of the fundamentals of information technology and provide the tools required for preparing and participating in an evolving information-based society. Throughout the course, students develop technological and information handling skills, by gathering, processing and manipulating data. The course offers a firm grounding in Information and Communication Technology, which is essential for students' careers.

The course allows students to progress either directly to employment, or to study for an Advanced Level qualification.

Specification aims

The aims of this specification are to encourage students to:

  • Choose, use and design information and communication systems to carry out a range of tasks to solve problems, making effective use of appropriate principles and techniques.
  • Develop a broad and balanced experience of the range of information and communication systems and their applications and an understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
