Overview

This course has been designed to offer students the opportunity to study psychology at an introductory level, yet also gain enough insight into the subject to enable the student to complete the course with a sound knowledge of the approaches, processes and issues that have been chosen to illustrate it at GCSE Level.

Throughout the course students cover the following topics:

• Behavioural Psychology
• Developmental Psychology
• Individual Psychology
• Cognitive Psychology
• Bio-Psychology.

The course allows students to progress either directly to employment, or to study for an Advanced level qualification.

Specification Aims

The aims of this specification are to encourage students to:

• develop understanding of the interdependence of individuals, groups, institutions and societies; the nature and significance of co-operation and coflict, and continuity and change; the nature and significance of individual and social differences in their own and other societies.
• acquire, select and handle information (making use of ICT where appropriate), to analyse critically its nature and source and to base judgements and arguments on evidence.
• reflect on their own experience of the social world in which they live and acquire knowledge and develop skills which enable them to play informed roles within the community.
