Withdrawal of cassettes

A phased withdrawal of cassettes and introduction of CDs using mp3 format will be put in place from 2008. The January 2008 series is unaffected by the phased withdrawal. For more information about these changes, please read the full notice to centres.

Overview

This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to study the Turkish language and develop all four language skills; Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Students will be able to communicate at home or abroad to Turkish-speaking people and will have an understanding of the culture of countries where Turkish is spoken.

The language is studied within a range of personal, social, and work related contexts. The course allows students to progress either directly to employment, or to study for an Advanced level qualification.

Specification aims

The aims of this specification are to encourage students to:

  • Develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of Turkish in a range of contexts, including materials from countries and communities where Turkish is spoken.
  • Develop the ability to communicate effectively in Turkish through both the spoken and the written word using a range of vocabulary and structures.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the grammar of Turkish and the ability to apply it.
  • Apply their knowledge and understanding in a variety of relevant contexts which reflect their previous learning and maturity.
  • Develop knowledge of countries and communities where Turkish is spoken.
  • Develop positive attitudes to modern foreign language learning.
  • Provide a suitable foundation for further study of Turkish or for the practical use of Turkish.
