Overview

This specification provides the opportunity to accredit candidates. work and achievements in Citizenship. The specification does not dictate how Centres may choose to prepare candidates, and it is envisaged that there may be a wide variety of methods. Some candidates may be able to use work undertaken in other curriculum areas to satisfy some parts of the specification. Existing activities, such as environmental projects or community service programmes, may provide opportunities for coursework.

The specification is designed to cover the requirements of the National Curriculum for Key Stage 4 Citizenship.

In whatever way the curriculum is designed and delivered within Centres, the specification aims are to:

  • Develop and apply knowledge and understanding about becoming informed citizens through and alongside the development of skills of enquiry, communication, participation and responsible action:
  • Explore local, national and international issues, problems and events of current interest.
  • Critically evaluate their participation within school and/or community activities.

Not all these aims can be readily translated into assessment objectives.
