The aim of the application of number qualification (available at levels 1 to 4) is to encourage candidates to develop and demonstrate their skills in interpreting information involving numbers, carrying out calculations, interpreting results and presenting findings. This qualification is essentially concerned with developing and recognising the ability of candidates to select and apply numerical, graphical and related mathematical skills in ways that are appropriate to their particular context.
To gain certification at levels 1 - 4 candidates must successfully complete a portfolio of evidence and pass a test. Candidates in Wales are not required to pass the test. The portfoliois internally assessed and moderated, and externally moderated by OCR. The test is taken under supervised conditions and it is externally set and marked.
Key skills are skills that are commonly needed for success in a range of activities in education and training, work and life in general. The key skills qualifications aim to develop and recognise candidates' ability to apply these skills in ways that are appropriate to different contexts in order to improve the quality of learning and performance. The key skills qualifications are designed to recognise candidates' progression in terms of both techniques and skills of application.
