With effect from 1 May 2008 this qualification is available for certification only. OCR has launched Developing an Established Business Enterprise Level 4 to replace this qualification.

This qualification is intended to reflect the work of owners or managers in established small businesses whether sole trader, partnership or limited company.
The candidates would be in a position to identify and develop the individual business needs. The qualification is aimed to provide owners and/or managers with direction and relevance to individual business needs.
To achieve a full award, candidates must complete six units, including three mandatory units and three optional units (from a choice of thirty-three). Candidates choose the optional units which best suit their work situation and job role.
Like all NVQs this qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to the candidate's ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with their work. Candidates plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable in their work role.
