This NVQ is designed to reflect the work of individuals whose job role includes Business Management, Systems Operation, Networking and/or Programming Software/Development of IT, in their day to day work, and recognises skills and knowledge already acquired either through other qualifications or previous experience and learning.
Candidates should be working in a company whose main business is IT or in the IT department of a company in other business areas. This could encompass both large enterprise and small or medium enterprise (SMEs).
The units within this qualification have been assigned specified unit values. To achieve a full OCR Level 4 NVQ for IT Professionals, candidates must complete a minimum total of 280 Unit Values. Candidates must complete two mandatory units and then choose the optional units that best suit their work situation and job role.
OCR have developed the optional units at Level 5 to allow for a more flexible choice to candidates.
Like all NVQs, this qualification is competence-based. This means that it is linked to the candidate's ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with their work. Candidates plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable in their work role.
