Overview

As you may be aware, this qualification was due to expire on 31 May 2008. However, I am pleased to inform you that this date has now been extended for a further year to the following dates:

  • Last registration date: 31 October 2009
  • Last certification date: 31 October 2012

This qualification is intended for those who have strategic management responsibility for learning and development and are involved in identifying organisational learning and development needs with strategic planning of the implementation of learning and development objectives. This qualification is concerned with the co-ordination of learning opportunities in line with organisational requirements, the securing of sufficient resources and the management of teams to implement the plans.

To achieve a full award, candidates must complete twelve units, including seven mandatory units and five optional units (four from one choice of seven and one from a further choice of two). Candidates choose the optional units that best suit their work situation and job role.

Like all NVQs this qualification is competence-based. This means that it is linked to the candidate's ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with their work. Candidates plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable in their work role.

OCR offers a range of NVQs in Learning and Development, which develop and recognise the competency of staff working at all levels within this sector. OCR also offers vocationally related unit based awards, which reflect discrete roles in the delivery, assessment and verification process.
