Overview

This course has been developed to provide learners with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare for work in the leisure and tourism sector.

They have also been designed to help learners develop their personal skills in areas such as team working, career planning, communication and problem solving.

The learners carry out a range of tasks that have been designed to recognise their achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace.

Specification aims

These qualifications specifically aim to:

  • Develop learner's knowledge and understanding of generic, transferable skills that are essential for further education, occupational training or employment, i.e. basic skills, team working and problem solving.
  • Develop learner's knowledge and understanding of the Leisure and Tourism sector and where selected, a chosen specialist pathway within that sector.
  • Develop learner's knowledge, understanding and skills in contexts that are relevant to employment situations.
  • Enable learners to develop the skills necessary to participate in real situations.
  • Encourage progression by assisting in the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that learners will need to access further education opportunities or occupational training on a full-time or part-time basis.
  • Promote interaction between employers, centres and learners by relating teaching and assessment to real settings.

How will this qualification be assessed?

All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR. There are no timetabled exams for this qualification; candidates may complete units at a time that suits the centre. The full award and units from this qualification are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Approval and Funding

OCR National qualifications have been accredited at Level 1, 2 and 3 of the National Qualifications Framework and eligible for funding under the Learning and Skills Council's Section 96/97 arrangements.
