This course is specifically designed to meet the needs of those students for whom GCSE Science is not appropriate, through the use of a number of teaching units with short tests and practical activities.
Students start with a record card which will be updated regularly and 'interim' certificates can be awarded by the centre at bronze, silver and gold levels based on continuous assessment.
The course consists of 39 Items, equally divided between Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with each 'item' requiring approximately five hours of curriculum time.
Although the course is designed to be an alternative to GCSEs, the course is assessed in such a way as to use similar mark schemes as used in OCR GCSE Twenty First Century Science suite and OCR GCSE Gateway Science suite. This allows the possibility of some students being entered as late as February of Year 11, for the Foundation Tier of an OCR GCSE Science course.
