What are the changes?

While we've made some important changes and improved our GCSEs, we haven't changed everything. Here you can see which aspects of GCSE Classical Greek are changing, and which will stay the same.

Structure

  • Each unit is of equal value
  • Learners take four units to gain the full course
  • Learners take two units to gain the short course.

 

Content

  • Verse Literature is no longer compulsory
  • For the Full Course the total number of lines of literature is 270 (or 135 if only one unit of literature is taken)
  • For the Short Course the total number of lines of literature is 135
  • There is no coursework unit so source-based study is via examination (Unit B405)
  • The language papers have distinct themes
  • Greek civilisation option available as source-based study, Unit B405
  • All learners take 50% language.

Assessment

  • All units are now examined – therefore Unit B405 replaces the old coursework unit
  • Short course is now available.
  • Learners have a choice of optional units (B403, B404, B405)
  • There is single-tier assessment
