GCSE 2010 English Suite explained

From September 2010, learners must study either GCSE English or GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature as demonstrated below.

14-16 year olds must study GCSE English or GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature
14-16 year olds must not study GCSE English and GCSE English Language
14-16 year olds must not study GCSE English and GCSE English Literature

The approach you choose will depend on what is best for your learners.

There are four main changes to the English GCSEs:

  1. The introduction by all awarding bodies of a third GCSE: English Language.
  2. The introduction of Spoken Language in GCSE English Language.
  3. The introduction of linked texts in English Literature
  4. The replacement of coursework with controlled assessment
