Overview

From September 2010, all learners beginning a new course of GCSE English will need to be working towards the new specifications.

The QCA criteria for English see the introduction of a third GCSE, meaning that from 2010, there will be three GCSE English specifications:

  • GCSE English
  • GCSE English Language
  • GCSE English Literature

In order to achieve performance table points, learners taking GCSE English Language must also be entered for GCSE English Literature. GCSE English must be taken on its own.

All three GCSE English specifications have been designed to be enjoyable and inspiring and to allow you to make the most of your passion for English. They all provide good links to further study for your learners.

Benefits

You and your learners can benefit from our GCSE English Literature specification because:

  • The Shakespeare and film or live performance (plus audio) linked texts unit.
  • The need to only compare two poems in the linked texts literary heritage unit.
  • The choice between the unseen/ anthology poetry question in Literature.
  • The updating of Literary Heritage to allow texts such as Lord of the Flies etc.
  • Learners can be entered for a mixture of foundation and higher tier papers.
