Future changes for OCR Nationals
New versions of OCR's Nationals will soon be rolled out for a September 2012 start. Current OCR Nationals will remain in place for students until 31 August 2012 (students will then have until 31 December 2014 to achieve these qualifications).
OCR Nationals are exam-free, vocationally related qualifications that take an engaging, practical approach to learning and assessment.
These qualifications are industry-relevant and geared to key sector requirements. OCR Nationals are popular with schools and colleges because they suit a range of learning styles across the ability range.
OCR Nationals are work-related qualifications available at Levels 1 to 3 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
As well as providing practical insight into industry sectors, OCR Nationals help students develop valuable workplace skills, such as team working, communication and problem solving, OCR Nationals are practically-based qualifications with tasks contextualised to the workplace.
Primarily aimed at young people aged 14-19 in full-time or part-time study, OCR Nationals offer students flexible exam-free options.
OCR Nationals contribute to Schools and College Achievement and Attainment Table (SCAAT) points and at Level 3 attract UCAS points. They form part of Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL) for Diplomas and can complement a candidate’s GCSEs, and A levels as they focus on building work-related skills which will support entry into work or progression to further studies through FE or HE.
Some candidates respond better to continual assessment rather than summative exams.
OCR Nationals enable candidates from across the ability range to obtain qualifications that better represent their true understanding and ability. Candidates receive assessment and learning support throughout the course giving them a clear indication of their progress, which can increase levels of success.
Units are internally assessed at a time to suit and then externally moderated. OCR Nationals offer teachers the flexibility to incorporate work experience, use their own assignments or OCR approved ones, and deliver units in any order. Two free moderation visits are available every year to spread the workload, support best practice and ensure candidates get the credit their work deserves.
