Overview

This qualification is competency-based and replaces the NVQs for IT Practitioners/Professionals. It is part of the new PROCOM suite of qualifications, developed for the QCF.

The PROCOM qualifications are vocationally-related, credit-based qualifications, designed to accredit the knowledge and understanding of practitioners in the IT and Telecoms industry. They may be taken as stand alone qualifications, suitable for any person wishing to gain a broad understanding of employment within the sector or in conjunction with OCR knowledge qualifications towards an apprenticeship.

This qualification is suitable for those who already possess basic knowledge and understanding of ICT systems and who wish to extend their knowledge and skills. It is suitable for those in education who wish to gain access to the IT industry and those who are already employed in roles in the IT industry who wish to develop further knowledge and skills to support and/or extend their work activities.

In order to achieve the OCR Level 3 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence (PROCOM), candidates must achieve a minimum of 72 credits.

This qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to the candidate's ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with their work. Candidates plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable in their work role.
