This qualification which replaces the OCR Fitness Instructing Level 2 Certificate (06512) and has been designed as an access route for people who want to work in the exercise and fitness industry. It provides evidence of an individual's competence in fitness instructing and enables individuals to gain access to the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 2. It has been developed to reflect modern practices in teaching exercise and fitness.
Candidates are required to complete six units in order to achieve the full award. There are four mandatory units which cover the essentials of anatomy, physiology, principles of exercise and fitness, supporting clients and health and safety. In addition candidates must also complete two optional units in one of four different contexts as follows:
The OCR Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing recognises the achievement of basic skills and knowledge in a controlled and safe environment. It forms a basis for progression to a full Level 2 qualification in exercise and fitness where candidates are required to demonstrate their skills in a place of employment. It also offers progression to the OCR Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (01784).
This qualification is appropriate to those people who are new to teaching exercise and fitness. It is aimed at candidates of 18 years of age and over. Whilst candidates who are under 18 years of age are not barred, they are likely to experience difficulty in obtaining the personal liability insurance cover needed to work in this area.
