Approved by QCA as Technical Certificates for the administration sector, these new qualifications are at Levels 2 and 3 of the National Qualifications Framework. They have been designed to accredit the mandatory knowledge, understanding and skills of Apprentices embarking upon Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship programmes in Administration.
The qualifications provide candidates with the essential underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills that would be needed by a competent employee functioning in an administration job role. They go hand-in-hand with the NVQ, but whereas the NVQ draws upon the application of the more practical dimensions, the Awards in Administration provide the breadth of underpinning knowledge required to work in the environment successfully.
Each qualification is made up of two mandatory units. Candidates have the option of achieving either one or both units, as appropriate to their own learning needs or employment situation. It must be noted however, that only the full qualification (ie achievement of both units) has Technical Certificate status.
Unit 1 is assessed by an on-screen, multiple choice test consisting of 30 items, set and marked by OCR. Unit 2 is assessed by an on-demand, assignment which is set and assessed by OCR.
The OCR Level 3 Award in Administration (03791) is aimed at those who already have knowledge and understanding of working in an administrative context, but wish to develop their knowledge and understanding in a supervisory role. It is suitable for those already in administration roles who wish to develop further knowledge, understanding and skills to support their work. It is also suitable for those who are studying in preparation for employment where they will be carrying out administrative tasks autonomously at a senior level.
For a complete technical certificate, candidates studying on Modern Apprenticeship programmes against the 2005 standards, candidates must, in addition to the Awards in Administration, achieve the following units from the OCR Level 3 Certificate for IT Users (CLAiT Advanced) - scheme code 05540:
