The OCR Level 4 Certificate for Adult Literacy Subject Specialists has been developed to meet the Department for Education and Skills requirement that all new teachers of adult literacy must gain an adult literacy qualification, approved by FENTO (Further Education National Training Organisation). The qualification has been developed to recognise the knowledge and skills demonstrated by those who work as specialist teachers of literacy. It has been designed to develop and accredit awareness of the wider social and learning issues related to the development of literacy skills, including insight into the learning difficulties and disorders that challenge some learners. The qualification will also promote the development of a higher level of personal literacy.
The qualification aims to develop candidates' skills and knowledge and to recognise their achievements in a practical way that is relevant to the work context. It is anticipated that much of the practical evidence required to meet the assessment requirements of the qualification will be naturally occurring.
